May is Mental Health Awareness month, and what better time to focus on the mental health and wellness benefits of being outdoors?!
At Landscape America, we have a unique opportunity to create spaces that encourage people to get outside and enjoy the beauty of our landscaping. Especially as the summer months quickly approach us, spending time outdoors will significantly increase.
Studies have shown that being in nature can substantially reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Being surrounded by greenery and fresh air can improve mood and cognitive function, while also leading to increased physical activity, positively impacting mental health.
So, how can we encourage our tenants to spend more time outside and enjoy the landscaping?
Here are a few tips and tricks:
Create inviting outdoor spaces:
Make sure your outdoor spaces are comfortable and inviting. Provide seating areas, shade, and even outdoor games or activities to encourage tenants to spend more time outside.
Host outdoor events:
Organize events like picnics, cookouts, food trucks, or outdoor movie nights to bring tenants together and encourage them to enjoy the outdoors.
Educate tenants on the benefits of spending time outside and how to incorporate outdoor activities into their daily routines. This can be done through an email or by hanging flyers in your space.
Last, but certainly not least, keep up with your landscaping:
Beautiful landscaping can be a major draw for tenants and is a key factor in encouraging them to go outside. Make sure your landscaping is well-maintained and visually appealing. (If it's not, be sure to let us know!)
Incorporating these tips and tricks into your property management strategy can help improve the mental health and wellness of your tenants. By creating inviting outdoor spaces and encouraging tenants to spend time outside, you can help them reap the many benefits of nature and improve their overall quality of life.
From all of us at Landscape America, happy Mental Health Awareness Month!
